Western Colorado University Foundation accepts a variety of planned gifts, including bequests, retirement account distributions, charitable trusts, donor-advised fund grants, securities, and certain property gifts. 

Yes. Many supporters choose to leave a legacy gift that helps future generations of Mountaineers access transformative educational opportunities. 

Individuals age 70½ or older may be eligible to make a qualified charitable distribution directly from their IRA to support Western while receiving the maximum tax benefits allowed by law. 

Yes. Gifts of appreciated securities may provide tax advantages while making a meaningful impact at Western. 

Endowed scholarships create permanent support for students. The scholarship fund is invested long-term, and an annual distribution is used to fund scholarships each year.

Planned Giving

Yes. The Western Colorado University Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and the charitable portion of your gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. The WCU Foundation’s Tax ID/EIN Number is 84-0709935. 

If a contribution includes goods or services — such as meals, event tickets, or sponsorship benefits — the tax-deductible amount will reflect the fair market value of those benefits. 

Yes. Donors receive a gift receipt for tax purposes following their contribution.

Yes. Donors may recommend grants to support Western through their donor-advised funds. 

Yes. Many employers offer matching gift programs that can increase the impact of your contribution. Matching gifts are generally tax-deductible for the employer making the contribution. Individual donor tax situations may vary.
