Club Teams at Smaller Schools Face Two Major Hurdles:
- Recruiting enough players to keep the team year-over-year sustainable and viable, replacing students lost to graduation and transfer.
- Raising enough money through player dues, institutional support, and donations, to cover the costs of travel, league dues, officials, road meals, coaches salary, gear, balls, and hopefully, postseason play.
An organization like the MLAA can at least provide some structure and assistance with the latter. Increasingly, as so many alumni have gone on to coach, at both the youth and high school level, here in Colorado, and beyond, we are trying to make more appeals to prospective WCU students that if playing the sport was a big part of your scholastic experience, Western offers the potential to get a wonderful education, at a great value, and continue playing lacrosse at the next level.
